Can Couples Therapy Really Help?

Couple by lake

The idea of starting Couples Therapy can be intimidating and result in you or your partner being guarded about beginning the process.

Things may be bad. Really, really bad for you and your partner right now and you may have little to no hope that anything could help, even counseling.

There are no guarantees to anything, much less the success rate of Couples Therapy, however, you will never know if it could have helped if you don’t get connected with a counselor and see what happens.

Even if you have tried counseling before and found it made things worse, not better, it may be worth a shot to give it another chance. Perhaps the timing was off the first or second time you tried counseling. Or maybe the counselor was not the best choice for you and your spouses unique needs. There can be many factors that can deem past counseling attempts a flop. Let’s get in touch and reassess what you both want and need from your counseling journey.

There are some active things you and your partner can take to help set up your Couples Therapy up for success before you sign on the dotted line and have the first session.

In an effort to put you both at ease, I offer a free fifteen-minute consultation where we will meet virtually together to give each of you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have or express your concerns about the process.

We will explore preferences, expectations, cost, and frequency of sessions among other things during the consultation.

When I work with couples it is important that I understand each of their perscectives about their problem areas. Since you are two individual people with different experiences, points of view, and opinions you will likely both have very different definitions of where the real problems lie.

Because of your differences, meeting with an objective third party who is experienced in helping couples can be benificial. At the onset of your counseling process I will carefully consider each of your perspectives and together we will collaborate and proceed in a way that will suit both of your needs, wants, and desires for your relationship.

It will be challenging, but you may both find it is well worth the work.

For some couples, you may simply need a short-term relational tune up, while others may need a little longer counseling process to really dig deep and establish a strong foundation to build the relationship that you both want. Think of it this way, while some couples need a renovation, others will need to rebuild their relationship from scratch. Identifying which couple you are can help get you off on the right foot in counseling.

During Couples Therapy, we will have an intake where you both will have an opportunity to share a little bit about yourselves and give me some history of your relationship. We will identify what each of you think the problems are and start collaborating together a uniquely tailored plan of action to get you both moving in the same direction.

You may be surprised to discover that you desire the same things. You both likely want to have a peaceful home, be happy, and enjoy and experience companionship.

Starting Couples Therapy may be the very thing you need to get started toward making the progress you both want to make.

Let connect and explore how starting Couples Therapy can help you both reach your individual and relationship goals.

Now is the time to take action, what have you got to lose?

I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.
