Virtual or In-Person
Which is best for you?
There are benefits and draw backs to both. Let’s take a look and consider which option might best suit your needs and preferences.
Benefits to virtual:
Meeting virtually with your counselor can be convenient as there is no need to consider traffic and commute times. You can simply open your laptop, phone, iPad, or tablet, log on and get started from the comfort of your own home. While my office is physically located in Murfreesboro, TN, I offer virtual counseling services to residents across the state. For example, if you live in west TN and feel like you and I are a good fit, we can meet virtually. This is great for you as essentially you have an entire state of licensed counselors from which to choose increasing the likelihood that you pick the right one.
There is no need to arrange for childcare and/or pet care during your virtual session. By planning ahead, you can have your children work independently on something or the session can be scheduled around nap times. If you’re comfortable, babies can be placed in a sling, on a blanket, or baby seat (whichever you choose) during session. Momma’s can nurse their little ones while on a virtual session by turning off their camera or repositioning the screen for privacy. This makes virtual counseling an excellent choice for new momma’s that may be dealing with postpartum challenges or stay-at-home mom’s who don’t want to deal with the hassle of finding a babysitter.
You can also be present to tend to your animals before, during, or after your session.
Draw backs to virtual:
The biggest draw back to virtual sessions can be technical difficulties. I have made provisions for such challenges and will discuss options with you should the need arise.
Sometimes privacy can be challenging on virtual sessions. For example, you may need to talk through something that involves a family member who is in the same physical location where you are having your virtual session. This can cause concerns that they might overhear what you’re saying during your session.
Benefits to in-person:
Some of you prefer in-person as physically you are setting aside a time and place to meet with your counselor other than your home.
Draw backs to in-person:
Traffic, specifically, Murfreesboro traffic. If you know, you know.
Sometimes individuals are dealing with heightened anxiety and meeting with their counselor in-person can make it worse. Virtual counseling sessions can be a helpful option in these cases.
Bottom line:
For your convenience I offer virtual and in-person counseling. Some enjoy a hybrid approach and utilize both options while others prefer one over the other. Give me a call and let’s explore which approach best suits you.
Thanks and take care!
